Visiting Stockholm this spring?

If you can, take time off to visit Prince Eugen's Waldemarsudde not far from downtown.

  • Avenbok, oil on canvas by Björn Wessman
  • Prince Eugens Waldemarsudde on Djurgården, originally home to Prince Eugen the “Painter Prince,” is an oasis a few minutes from the center of town and today one of Sweden's most popular art museums. Its present exhibition, A Painter's Path (En Målares Väg), is the first retrospective of Björn Wessman's work as an artist.

  • In the exhibition, visitors can follow a fascinating journey through Wessman's rich art, ranging from the collages of the 1980s and expressive post-romantic landscapes to today's colorful natural depictions of France, New Guinea, Norrland's Kebnekaise mountain and Lapporten (a U-shaped valley located just outside Abisko National Park in Lapland), the Stockholm archipelago and his own garden. We can experience Wessman's garden in a number of his paintings as well as in a staged garden with flowering rhododendrons in the exhibition.
