1736: Sveriges rikes lag (the Statute Book of Sweden) comes into effect. It replaces the medieval Kristofers landslag from 1442 (which was established during the reign of Christopher of Bavaria). As this new law had already been adopted in 1734, it is also known as 1734 års lag (the law of the year of 1734), and though it has been heavily modified since, it is still the current Swedish statute book. -
