Sweden condemns Russia’s actions
Putin's recognition of two pro-Russian breakaway regions in eastern Ukraine and subsequent invasion unilaterally condemned.
On February 21 Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that it's Moscow's duty to protect Russian speakers in Ukrainian territory from an alleged deadly threat posed by Kyiv—and swiftly deployed “peacekeepers” that entered two break-away regions in eastern Ukraine. While the White House immediately called Russia’s actions an invasion, Sweden’s reaction was more cautious. "Yesterday's decision from Russia is a clear violation of international law and the Minsk Agreement," said Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson at a press conference on February 22. "Ukraine has the right to make its own choices like all other European countries. The responsibility for this falls solely on the Russian political leadership, "she added, also adding that Sweden will provide further assistance to aid organizations in Ukraine. -
